Statutory Sick Pay

This coming April, yes only 6 months away, will see another change to the way that Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) operates. SSP will now become payable from day one of the sickness absence.

This means that instead of having 3 “Waiting Days” before an employee becomes eligible for SSP, employees will now attract the payment form the first day of absence, or for the odd days here and there. This now underlines the need for employers to have an effective method for managing absence, which is applied consistently across the board.

This change comes in the wake of the previous adjustment to the SSP regime when the government removed the ability for employers to claim back SSP and thus placed the burden onto employers.

Further Changes in April

This is just one of the raft of changes coming through for this coming April. Other changes include Parental and Paternity Leave, advanced Trade Union Rights, Collective Redundancy changes and importantly the definition of a Protected Disclosure is going to include reporting Sexual harassment.

All these changes, as well as the changes coming later in the year will be covered and made simple in our Seminar on 14th January. Book your place now and don’t miss out.

Everything you can, and need to know about the new regime, that will affect all employers, will be covered in plain English at our Employment Law Update on 14 January at Kingsholm in Gloucester. Places are limited and demand is high so book now by following this link.
