Prevention of sexual harassment

It’s now just over a year since the duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment came into force.

Employers who carried out risk assessments last year in order to comply with their duty should be reviewing these and update them if anything has changed. And staff who received training last year may need refresher training.

From talking with clients it’s clear that some companies have not yet taken any steps to comply with the new duty. This leaves them exposed to an increased risk of claims, and compensation being increased by up to 25% in claims are successful.

From October next year the Employment Rights Bill will require employers to do even more, by requiring them to take “all reasonable steps” to prevent sexual harassment of their employees.

If you need help and support to comply with the duty, or you would like to discuss bespoke training for employees, you can e-mail us.
